6 types of plastic molds, do you know them all?
Injection Mold
Characteristics: Molten plastic is injected into the closed mold cavity under high pressure by screw/plunger, and cooled and demolded after molding; complex structure, including pouring system, ejector mechanism, temperature control system, etc., and made of high hardness mold steel.
Application areas: daily necessities (such as tableware, storage boxes), home appliances shell, automotive parts (dashboard, bumper) and other high-volume thermoplastic products production.
Blow Molds
Characteristics: the use of compressed air will be blown plastic preforms to fit the inner wall of the mold, the formation of hollow products; mold structure is simple, mostly made of carbon steel or aluminum alloy.
Application areas: beverage bottles, cosmetic bottles, oil drums and other packaging containers, as well as automobile fuel tanks, ventilation pipes and other industrial parts.
Extrusion mold
Characteristics: continuous molding of plastic through the mouth die by rotating and pressurizing the screw, with high production efficiency; the design of the mouth die determines the shape of the cross-section (e.g., round, profiled), and wear-resistant materials can be inlaid in some areas.
Application areas: continuous profile production of pipes, plates, cable sheaths, door and window profiles, etc.
Blister molds
Characteristics: Through vacuum negative pressure or compressed air to make the heated and softened plastic sheet affixed to the mold cavity molding; mold material is mostly cast aluminum or non-metallic materials (such as resin), low cost.
Application areas: disposable lunch boxes, food trays, toy packaging liner and other thin-walled products.
Compression mold
Characteristics: thermosetting plastics are pressed and molded by high temperature and high pressure, including compression molding and injection molding; the mold needs to be preheated (about 100-150 ℃), and curing and shaping are required after pressing.
Applications: thermosetting products such as electrical plugs, pot handles, bottle caps, etc., as well as resin lenses and steering wheel foam parts.
Foaming Mold
Characteristics: Using Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) material, lightweight foam products are formed by steam heating and expansion; the molds need to be designed with exhaust holes to discharge the foaming gas.
Application areas: express cushioning packaging, thermal insulation boxes, building insulation boards, etc.
